aremanufacturedtohighqualitystandardsandaredesignedforyearsofservice.
ReadThisBeforeInstallingThermostat
OPERATION
1,YourThermostatisdesignedtooperatewithmostgas,oil,electricor2wirehotwater
heating,andairconditioningsystemsthathave24voltormillivoltcontrol.
This Thermostat will not control multistage heating or cooling systems, 110 / 220V
systems,or3wirezonesystems.
IMPORTANT
2,Readtheentireinstallationof this Owner’sManualthoroughlybefore youbegin to
installoroperateyourThermostat.
Removethemylarlabelfromthedisplaywindow.
INSTALLATION
3,Allinstallationisnormallyperformedatyourthermostat.
PROGRAMMING
4,You can practice programming before installing your thermostat by inserting and
connectingthebatteries.Thiscanbedonewhileyourelaxinyourfavoritechairandisa
verygoodwaytofamiliarizeyourselfwithallthefunctionsofyourThermostat.
COMPRESSORPROTECTION
5,Thethermostatprovidesa4minutedelayaftershuttingoffthecompressorbeforeit
can be restarted. This featurewill prevent damage toyour air conditioner compressor
causedbyrapidcycling.Itdoesnotprovideadelaywhentherearepoweroutages.
TEMPERATUR ERANGE
6, This thermostat can be programmed between 45˚F and 95˚F (7˚C and 35˚C).
However,itwilldisplayroomtemperaturesfrom30˚Fto99˚F(0˚Cand37˚C).“HI”willbe
displayedifthetemperatureishigherthan99˚F(37˚C),and“LO”willbedisplayedifthe
temperatureislowerthan30˚F(0˚C).
This t hermostat will automatically cutoff in Heat mode if the temperature rises above
95˚F(35˚C),andautomaticallycutoffinCoolmodeifthetemperaturedropsbelow45˚F
(7˚C).
POWERFAILURE
7, Whenever the main power is interrupted or fails, the battery power retains the
programsandcurrenttime.
BATTERYWARNING
8,Two fresh AA alkaline batteries should provide well about one year of service.
However,whenthebatteriesbecomedrained, the“BATT”willflashonthedisplay.When
thismessageoccurs,installnewalkalinebatteries.Youhaveapproximately1minuteto
change thebatteries and keep thethermostat’sclock and programsettings.Oncethe
batterieshavebecometoolowtoensureproperoperation,yoursystemwillbeturnedoff,
andthedisplaywillbeclearedexceptforflashing“BATT”onthelcddisplay.
CAUTION:Whenonly theLowBatteryiconflashesonthedisplay,the
thermostatisshutdown,andyoursystemwillnolongeroperate.Inthis
condition,thereisnotemperaturecontrolofyourdwelling.
NOTE:Thebacklightwillnotfunctionwhenthethermostatisinlowbatterycondition.
NOTE:Ifyou plantobeawayfromthepremisesover30days,werecommendthatyoureplace
theoldbatterieswithnewalkalinebatteriespriortoleaving.
POWERSUPPLY
9,Thethermostatshallbepoweredby24VACandwithbatteriesasbackup.
HowThisThermostatWorks…AndSavesYourMoney
Thisthermostatisdesignedtooptimizetheuseofyourheatingandc oolingequipment.It
doesthisbymatchingyourcomfort(thetemperaturesinyourhome)toyourschedule.
Anexample:
6:00am – Youwakeup.Program1has theheatsetto70°(21℃).
7:30am – You leave for work. The second program turns the heat back to
62℃(17℃)whileyouareaway.
5:00pm–Youcomehome.Thethirdprogramhasalreadywarmedyourhouse
backto70°(21℃).
10:00pm – Yougo tobed. A halfhour later,program4 turnsthe heatback to
64°(18℃)tosaveenergywhileyouareundertheblankets.

Installation
WhatYouNeed
Thisthermostatcomeswithtwo#8slottedscrewsandtwowallanchorsformounting.To
installyourunit,youshouldhavethefollowingtoolsandmaterials.
■Slottedscrewdriver ■Electricdrilland3/16”bit
■Hammer ■Two1.5V(AA)SizeAlkalinebatteriesareincluded.
RemoveOldThermostat
CAUTION:Donotremoveanywiringfromexistingthermostat befor ereadingthe
instructionscarefully.Wiresmustbelabeledpriortoremoval.
■ IMPORTANT!Turnoffthepowertothefurnaceatthemainpowerpaneloratthe
furnace.
■ Removeexistingthermostatcoverandthermostat.Seefigure1.Somethermostat
will have screw or other locking devices that must first be removed. Once wall
mountingplateisexposed,lookforwires.
Ifwiresarenotvisible,theymaybeconnectedtothebackofthewallplate.Again,
lookforscrews, tabs,etc. Somemodelshavedoorsthatopentoexposewiresand
mountingscrews.(SeeFigure1).

LabelWires
■ Each wire coming from the wall to the existing thermostat is connected to a
terminalpointonthatthermostat.Eachoftheseterminalpointsisusuallymarked
withacodeletterasshowninTableA.
Thenumberofwiresinyoursystemcanbeasfewastwo(forheatonlysystems),
asmanyaseight,oranynumberinbetween.Ifyoufollowthelabelingprocedures
correctly,youdonothavetoconcernedabouthowmanywiresthereare.
There is often noterminal marking onthe existing thermostatof two wire, heat
onlysystems.Donnotworry,justconnecteitherofthewirestotheRHterminal,
thenconnecttheotherwiretotheWterminaltocompletethecircuit.
■ IMPORTANT! BEFORE DISCONNECTING ANY WIRES, APPLY THE
SELFADHESIVELABELSPROVIDEDTOTHEWIREASSHOWNINTABLEA.
(For example, attach the label markedWto the wire which goesto theW or H
terminal on your existing thermostat.) IGNORE THE COLOR OF THE WIRES
sincethesedonotalwayscomplywiththestandard.
■ Afterlabelingwires,disconnectthemfromtheexistingthermostatterminals.
■ Removeexistingwallplate.Tomakesurewiresdonotfallback
intowallopening,youmaywanttotapethemtothewall.
■ Ifholeinwallislargerthannecessaryforwires,sealthishole
sothatnohotorcoldaircanenterthebackofthethermostat
formthewall.Thisaircouldcauseafalsethermostatreading.

WireLabeling
NOTE:IfyourthermostathasonewiremarkedRorRH(4wiresystem),then
leavethejumperwirebetweentheRH andRCterminals. Otherwise,ifyou
have separateRH and RC wires (5wire system), then remove thej umper
wirebetweentheRHandRCterminals.
NOTE: D o not connect a “common” wire (sometimes labeled “C”) to any
terminal on this thermo stat. Tape up the wire and do no t use. This wire
provideselectricity tononbatterypoweredthermostats.
MountWallplateandThermostat
Snapopenthewallplateyourthermostatbypressingthereleasetabonthe bottom ofthe
thermostat.
Position wallplate on wall and pull existing wires through large opening. Then
levelforappearance.Markholesforplasticanchorsprovidedifexistingholesdo
notlineupwithHunterThermostatholes.
Drillholeswith3/16”bitandgentlytapanchorsintotheholesuntilflushwithwall.
Repositionwallplatetowall,pullingwiresthroughlargeopening.Insertmounting
screwsprovidedintowallanchorandtighten.(SeeFigure2.)

Selectorwitches
Theheating system selectorandthe ℉/℃ selector switchesare located on the
PrintedCircuitBoard.
■ Heatingsystemselector
TheheatingsystemselectorisaswitchonthePrintedCircuitBoardontheinside
ofthe thermostat. Theswitch isat “HG” position. Leaveit inthis position ifyou
haveagasfurnaceoranoilburner.
Ifyouhaveanelectricfurnace,testtoseewhethertheheatandfancomeonas
expected.Leavetheswitchinthe“HG”position.Ifthefandoesnotcomeonwhen
thethermostatcallsforheat,changetheswitchpositionto“HE”.
Thesystemselectorhasnoeffectinthecoolingmode.
NOTE:“HG” positionisforgasandmostothersystems. “HE” positionisfor
certainelectricsystemshavingafanrelay.
■ ℉/℃selector(Fahrenheit/Centigrade)
Your thermostat is set for ℉ mode from the factory. In order to change to ℃
mode,slidetheswitchto ℃ andmove
thebatteryout,andthen hold anykey
toreleasetherest energy.Thenplace
thebatteryagain.
NOTE: Unless move the battery out,
and then hold any key to release the
rest energy. Then place the battery
again,the thermostat will not change
themode.
AutoRecoveryselect
Yourthermostatissetfromthefactorywitht heAutoRecoveryFeatureenabled,
whichcomplieswiththeEPAENERGYSTARProgram.Ifyouprefertousenormal
recovery,slidetheswitchtotheENABLEposition.
ConnectWiresandMountThermostatCovertoWallPlate
■ Matchandconnectthelabeledwirestotheappropriatecodedterminalscrewson
themountingplate.(SeeFigure3,4.)Ignoreanywireswhichmaybepresent,but
whichwerenotconnectedtotheoldthermostat.
■ Be sure to tighten the terminal screws securely, otherwise a loos e wire could
causeoperationalproblemswithyoursystemorthermostat.
■ Pushexcesswirebackintoholetopreventinterferencewithmountingofthethermostatcover.
■ MakesuretheFunctionSwitchissetatOFF,andtheFANAUTOSwitchisinAUTO.
■ Insert the bottom tab on the thermostat body intothe slot atthe bottom ofthe
wallplate.Presstopofthethermostatbodytosnapitintothewallplate.
■ (NOTE:Donotforcethethermostatontothewallplate,astheterminalpins
maybedamaged.Ifitdoesnotsnapproperly,thethermostatmaynotwork.)
■ InsertthetwoAAsizebatteries,observingthe
polaritymarkedontheunit.

Yourthermostatiscapableofholdingupto4separateprogramsforeachdayoftheweek.You
canprogramallweekdays,MondaytoFriday,tothesame4programsasshowninthetable,or
eachweekdaycan haveadifferentsetof4programs.Similarlyweekendprograms,Saturdayand
Sunday, can be the same 4 programs or each weekend day can have a different set of 4
programs.
